China Railcom announced Tuesday that the company already had 1.047 million broadband Internet subscribers, which gave it a market share of 2.29 percent of the country.
The company was established in December 2000 by the Ministry of Railways. In January 2004, ownership of the company was transferred from the ministry to the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC).
It is one of the six large state-owned telecommunications companies in China.
Last year, China had about 94 million Internet users, with 23.85 million using broadband.
