Expert: Fall the Best Time to Prevent Flu

With the arrival of autumn's cooler weather, medical experts are suggesting people receive flu vaccinations.

Speaking at a conference on flu prevention Tuesday, Chief scientist of the China Center for Disease Prevention and Control Zeng Guang said winter is the high-incidence time of the flu in China.

He noted to get vaccinated one or two months before winter is the most effective way to prevent the flu and people should vaccinate new bacteria since the flu virus tends to have variations.

He suggested people over 60, the chronically ill, medical workers, and children be vaccinated as they are the most at risk of catching the flu.

Statistics show that every year five to15 percent of the world population are infected with the flu. The percentage is even up to 30 to 50 percent among children and the elderly.
