More Campus Counselors Needed

The Shanghai News Daily reports that college psychological counseling has become the busiest career in today's universities, because there are far from enough psychological consultants on campuses.

And the ones there are can hardly meet the students' needs.

According to the article, in overseas colleges or universities, there is one counselor for every 800 to 1,000 students, while at home, one counselor must serve more than 5,000 students.

At Shanghai Tongji University, there are over 30 thousand students and just 5 counselors.

The reports notes a recent survey reveals that 5 percent of college students in China suffer from various kinds of psychological problems. And experts are calling for more efforts to arouse public awareness of the significance of campus counselors. More investments are also expected to be made in related areas.
