US Confirms Killing of Two Americans in Saudi Arabia

The United States on Saturday confirmed that two Americans were killed and another was injured in an attack aimed at Westerners in Saudi Arabia.

"Two American citizens have died and a third is hospitalized," State Department spokeswoman Susan Pittman told reporters.

The confirmation, citing information from US consulate in the Saudi city of Jeddah, corrected earlier reports which said three Americans were killed in the assault.

But Pittman said the death toll could rise further because details of the attack remained unclear for the moment.

The Saudi attacks reportedly involved four gunmen who entered the office of an oil contractor on Saturday and began shooting at random. At least six Westerners, including the two Americans, were killed.
