Russia Reiterates One-China Principle on Taiwan Issue

Russia on Monday reiterated its position that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an integral part of China.

Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Alexander Saltanov confirmed Russia's stand during his meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Russia Liu Guchang and stressed that "Russia is against Taiwan's independence in any form."

Noting that the failure of the unlawful referendum revealed its unpopularity among the people on the island, Saltanov noted that Russia would closely watch the development of situation in Taiwan.

The deputy minister vowed that Russia would not congratulate the elected Taiwan leaders by any means, nor would it send delegates to the "inauguration" ceremonies.

Liu Guchang informed the Russian side of the recent situation in Taiwan and China's position over the Taiwan issue.
