Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi on Monday held talks with Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom on further bilateral cooperation.
Wu said the two sides have attained remarkable results in bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields under the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence since the two countries established diplomatic ties 32 years ago.
She said that all countries, small or large, strong or weak, rich or poor, are equal members of the international community and Chinese government is willing to develop a long and stable relationship with the Maldives on the basis of mutual understanding and respect.
China attaches importance to the mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and will continue to provide the Maldives with due assistance, the Chinese vice premier said.
The two sides should actively explore new ways of cooperation, she added.
On his part, Gayoom said the Maldivian government appreciates the valuable assistance China has provided to his country.
The president noted that he is looking forward to his visit to China within this year to further promote bilateral relationship.
Gayoom reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China and that the Maldivian government is committed to the one-China policy.
