Top Chinese Legislator Wu Bangguo met in Beijing Tuesday with Senator Max Baucus of the United States and his party.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), said Sino-US relations have progressed well in general and the two sides have conducted effective consultations, coordination and cooperation in such fields as the economy, trade, anti-terrorism and the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula.
This is in the fundamental interest of the two countries and the two peoples, and conducive to world peace, stability and development, noted Wu.
Wu expressed his appreciation for Baucus' support in the past years for the development of Sino-US relations and bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Baucus voiced his view on the establishment of long-term and stable relations between the United States and China, hoping to further bilateral exchanges and cooperation in economy and trade.
The US visitors are here as guests of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.
