Chinese Special Envoy Visits US

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo visited the United States on Monday and Tuesday as a special envoy of the Chinese government.

During his visit, Dai had an extensive and in-depth exchange of views with US leaders on Sino-US relations and other issues of mutual concern. He also delivered a letter from Chinese President Hu Jintao to US President George W. Bush.

The two sides positively evaluated the momentum in the development of Sino-US relationship, and expressed the wish to further promote the development of the Sino-US constructive cooperative relationship through concerted efforts.

Dai elaborated China's principled position on the issue of Taiwan, and the US side reaffirmed that the US government will stick to the one-China policy and the position expressed by President Bush on Dec. 9 last year.

With regard to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, the two sides said they will enhance consultation and coordination to facilitate the smooth convocation of the third round of six-party talks in Beijing.
