Top Chinese Legislator Meets Canadian PM

Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo Wednesday told visiting Canadian Prime Minister Joseph-Jacques Jean Chretien that China had many opportunities for foreign businesses as long as it maintained rapid economic growth.

Jean Chretien arrived in Beijing Tuesday night for a four-day official visit.

During his meeting with the Canadian prime minister, Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), said that China and Canada had kept a good relationship and conducted fruitful cooperation, particularly trade and business.

The 2008 summer Olympics to be held in Beijing and the 2010 World Exposition in Shanghai would create more opportunities for cooperation between China and Canada, he told Chretien.

Wu also suggested China's NPC and Canada's parliament should increase exchanges and cooperation.
