A China-sponsored Russian culture festival will be held in Beijing in October to mark the 110th anniversary of the death of the great Russian composer Tchaikovsky, the organizer said in Beijing Wednesday.
Organized by the China Performing Arts Agency, the festival will feature three well-known artistic troupes -- Moiseyev dance ensemble, Kuban Kazak dance ensemble and Caraian jazz troupe.
The Moiseyev troupe is named after its founder, Igor Moiseyev, a folk dance master of Russia. Moiseyev composed and directed nearly 300 dance dramas over the past 60 years since the founding of the troupe. Some of his work was adapted and performed in China.
Prize-winning artists at the Tchaikovsky International Music Competition, and a dozen top Russian vocalists, will be invited to perform. (Xinhua News Agency September 25, 2003)
