Chinese, Bulgarian DMs Hold Talks

Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan said in Beijing Monday that China will actively promote military reform with Chinese characteristics and try to achieve modernization of its defense and armed forces.

Cao, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, made the remark during talks with Bulgarian Defense Minister Nikolay Svinarov, who arrived here Sunday for an official visit.

The friendly relations between China and Bulgaria have been progressing steadily, Cao said, noting that peace and development remain the theme of the current world despite complicated and profound changes in the international situation.

Svinarov said Bulgaria and China enjoy friendship and cooperation, and the two countries should further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between their armed forces.

Bulgaria adheres to the "one China" policy and hopes China would play a greater role in the international arena, Svinarov said.
