SARS TV Channel Closes in Singapore
Singapore's TV channel on the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) stopped transmission from Thursday due to all SARS-hit countries have been taken off the warning list of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The cable provider Starhub said that there is no longer a need for a dedicated channel on SARS because the SARS threat and public interest in the disease were now greatly diminished.

Since the launching of the channel on May 21, about a million viewers have reportedly tuned in the channel, which was jointly launched by Starhub, Media Corp and Singapore Press Holdings.

A total of 32 people died of the 206 SARS cases recorded in the island state of some 4 million population.

Singapore has taken tougher and effective measures to halt the spread of the SARS virus since the first SARS case was reported in the country in early March.

Singapore was removed from the WHO's warning list on May 31.
