Sudanese Plane Crashes Killing 116 People
A Sudanese airliner crashed early Tuesday shortly after taking off from Port Sudan airport, killing 105 passengers and 11 crew members, the Sudan News Agency reported.

Only a child survived, the report said.

The Boeing 737 was on an internal flight to the Sudanese capital Khartoum, when its captain reported trouble.

"But fate was quicker,'' the director of Sudan Airways, Ahmed Ismail Zuwary, was quoted as saying.

The plane crashed in an area near Port Sudan airport on the RedSea, according to the report.

Government spokesman Salah Ali Ahmed told local media that the child was in a hospital and in good condition.

He said the plane crashed some five km from Port Sudan airport.

Local radio reported that the accident happened at around 4:00 a.m. (0100 GMT).

The Boeing 737 had taken off from Port Sudan airport and turned back after the captain reported an unspecified problem. It crashed while attempting to land again, the radio report said.
