Chinese President Hu Jintao has arrived in Evian, France and met with his French counterpart Jacques Chirac.
The two leaders exchanged views on Sino-French relations and other major international and regional issues.
President Hu Jintao arrived by boat from Lausanne, Switzerland, and was received by French President Jacques Chirac at the dock.
In Evian, Hu Jintao will attend an informal meeting between leaders of the North and the South.
Present at the informal meeting will be leaders from 7 emerging economies including China, Brazil, Mexico and India, and from five countries participating in the New Partnership for Africa's Development, as well as leaders of Switzerland, Greece, and international organizations.
During the meeting, President Hu Jintao will meet separately with French President Jacques Chirac and US President George W. Bush on bilateral relations and issues of common concern.
The Chinese president has just left Russia where he attended the third summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and St. Petersburg's 300th birthday celebrations.
In St. Petersburg, he met with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
