China Welcomes Israel's Acceptance of 'Road Map'
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said in Beijing Monday that China welcomed Israel announcing acceptance of the "road map" plan for peace in the Middle East.

"China regards this as an important step towards the realization of peace between Israel and Palestine," said spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue in response to a request for comment.

Zhang said China hopes Israel and Palestine would seize this opportunity and resume peace talks as soon as possible so as to ensure an early implementation of the peace plan.

The "road map" was initiated by an international mediation quartet made up of the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and Russia.
