Japan, Germany and the United States have made donations to China to assist in its combat against the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) epidemic.
The Japanese government has donated medical equipment and medicine worth 205 million yen, and a handover ceremony was held in Beijing Thursday.
The first batch of 20 X-ray machines and 25 respirators donated by the German government arrived in Beijing Thursday morning.
Also on Thursday, Clark T. Randt, US ambassador to China, on behalf of the US government, donated US$500,000 to the Chinese Red Cross Society to support the fight against SARS.
