The Serbian government on Tuesday decided to build specialized hospitals in four cities to treat patients of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and suspected SARS cases, the Tanjug news agency reported.
In order to provide timely quarantine and medical treatment for SARS patients and suspected SARS patients, the government has decided to set up the hospitals in Belgrade, Novisad, Niss and Kragujevac, Tanjug quoted Predrag Kon, a member of the country's expert team on SARS, as saying in a statement.
Serbia has imposed strict monitoring procedures for possible SARS patients in the past month, the statement said.
All travelers from SARS-hit areas must report their health conditions to Serbian medical authorities within 10 days of their arrival in Serbia. So far, 299 travelers from Canada, 254 from China and 31 from Singapore have been put under monitoring.
No SARS case however has been reported in Serbia.
