Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), met in Beijing Wednesday with a delegation of the Mozambique Liberation Front Party (MLFP) led by its General Secretary Armando Emilio Guebuz.
Wu, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said the Chinese and Mozambican peoples had a profound traditional friendship. Over recent years, the friendly cooperative relationship had developed in an all-round way, with frequent high-level visits and constantly developing economic and trade cooperation.
He said the Chinese side appreciated the support of Mozambique on the human rights, Taiwan and other issues.
He also spoke highly of the relationship between the CPC and the MLFP, and expressed the wish that the two parties further reinforce their exchanges and cooperation in international affairs and other fields, so as to further develop the relationship.
Guebuz said the MLFP and the Mozambican government treasured the friendly cooperative relationship with the CPC and the Chinese government, and the Mozambican people were always faithful friends of the Chinese people.
He outlined the domestic conditions in Mozambique, stressing that the only way for a country to develop and for its people to rise from poverty was to maintain stability, and in this respect, China had set a good example.
Wu also introduced to the guests the major achievements of the 16th National Congress of the CPC.
