check for 200,000 euros was presented here Friday to China's Civil Affairs Ministry (CAM) as a donation from Greece for the earthquake-hit Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China.
Jin Ergang, director general of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the CAM, said the donation would be transferred to Xinjiang as soon as possible and be used mainly on reconstruction.
He said China would keep the Greek government informed of the latest developments on the utilization of the fund.
At the donation ceremony, a donation certificate was awarded by Jin on behalf of the CAM to Charalambos Rocanas, ambassador of Greece to China.
The earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale has caused direct economic losses of 1.37 billion yuan (US$165.06 million) in Xinjiang and disrupted the lives and production of 510,000 residents.
Since the disaster on the morning of February 24, a number of countries have expressed their readiness to provide necessary relief materials.
