HK Leader Sends Condolences to South Korean President
Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa has written to President Kim Dae-jung of the Republic of Korea to express his deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims involved in the subway fire occurred on Tuesday.

Wednesday's government press release said that Tung was saddened by the tragic incident and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Addressing public concern about the safety of railways in Hong Kong, Tung said the two railway corporations, the Police and the Fire Services Department had efficient contingency measures to deal with train fires, and fire drills were regularly conducted in Hong Kong.
