The signing ceremony on donating 15 tractors and necessary implements and 25 water pumps by the Chinese government was held Wednesday in Tanzania Agricultural Ministry.
The equipments were the result of the visit of Tanzanian Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye to China in March 2000.
Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Food Security Pius Mbawala described the assistance as "at an opportune moment when Tanzania seriously seeks to modernize its agriculture by expanding tillage with the view of ensuring food security and fighting poverty."
In the year 2002, China had provided about US$40.2 million to Tanzania, and nearly half of them are the grants.
