Improving friendly and cooperative Sino-Turkish ties will benefit the two peoples and help maintain the stability and development of the region, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue at a regular press conference in Beijing Tuesday.
Zhang said China and Turkey enjoyed friendly relations and frequent high-level visits. The friendly ties in the political, economic and cultural fields had made comprehensive progress in recent years with the support of the leaders of the two countries.
Zhang said Recep Tayyip Erdogan, chairman of Turkey's ruling party, the Justice and Development Party, began his official visit to China today. Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji will meet the Turkish delegation. They will exchange views on bilateral ties and international issues of common concern.
