President Rudolf Schuster of the Slovak Federal Republic arrived in Xi'an, capital of north China's Shaanxi Province, Saturday to start his state visit to China as a guest of Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
Jia Zhibang, acting governor of Shaanxi, met with Schuster and his party.
Jia briefed the guests on the economic and social development of the province, saying Xi'an, as an ancient city, not only has abundant cultural heritage, but also is an important scientific and educational base of China with famous hi-tech development zones.
To seize the opportunity of China's developing the western region, Shaanxi is willing to strengthen cooperation with Slovakiain economic and cultural fields, Jia said.
Schuster said that Shaanxi, which has attached importance to development, needs to protect its historic and cultural heritage.
He also expressed his hope to strengthen cooperation with China.
Schuster and his party also visited the Museum of Terra-cotta Warriors. They will fly to Beijing Sunday morning.
