China welcomes the peace agreement reached by various parties of the Congo (Kinshasa) on arrangements for the transitional period, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao in Beijing Wednesday.
Liu made this statement in response to a reporter's question concerning the agreement signed by various parties of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Tuesday in Pretoria.
China welcomes the agreement, an important outcome of the ongoing political dialogue inside the DRC, he said, adding that it gives expression to the good intention of the signatories to actively seek political solution and rebuild peace in the country, signifying a major stride forward in the DRC peace process.
China sincerely hopes that the relevant Congolese parties will, acting in the interest of the country and its people, strictly implement the agreement reached, so as to work together for peace and development in the country.
