Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Tuesday expressed hope that economic cooperation and trade between China and Bulgaria could be expanded.
During a meeting with Ognyan Gerdjikov, chairman of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, and his party, Li said that he hopes trade departments and entrepreneurs from the two countries could boost exchanges and explore new means of cooperation.
The two countries' economies are highly mutually complementary and enjoy great potential for cooperation, Li said.
Li, who visited Bulgaria last May, said strengthening the relations between China and Bulgaria is not only in the fundamental interests of people in both countries but is also conducive to world peace, stability and prosperity.
Gerdjikov said China is a great and friendly partner of Bulgaria, and bilateral ties between the two countries have made major progress. The two sides should make every effort to promote their friendly relations, he said.
He stressed that Bulgaria did not recognize "Taiwan independence", nor would in the future. Bulgaria has always supported China's stance on the issue of Tibet, he said.
Gerdjikov and his party began their visit last Friday. It was Gerdjikov's first visit to China.
