Jia Qinglin, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met in Beijing Wednesday with the IOC Coordination Commission for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Jia said in the meeting that Beijing and the International Olympic Committee has maintained a smooth relation since Beijing was granted the right to host the 2008 Olympic Games last year.
The visit of IOC Coordination Commission to Beijing will strengthen mutual understanding and Beijing, in cooperation with the IOC, will make every effort to host a best ever Olympic Games in 2008, Jia said.
Briefing the guests on domestic situation, Jia said that the recently-concluded 16th CPC National Congress is a "very important" meeting held in the new century and the meeting has set a goal for the development of Beijing in the 21st century.
Hein Verbruggen, president of the IOC Coordination Commission, spoke highly of Beijing's preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games. He said that the Coordination Commission will continue to support Beijing for the success of the games.
