Israeli troops shot and killed five Palestinians and wounded eight others Tuesday night in the West Bank town of Tulkarem in a fresh military operation, witnesses and medical sources said.
An Israeli undercover unit raided the eastern neighborhood of the town and opened fire at a group of Palestinian young men, killing five of them and wounding eight others, local residents reported.
Izel Dein Al Sharif, governor of Tulkarem, said the town has been ravaged by the Israeli army operation over the last four hours, adding that Israeli Apache helicopter gunships fired heavy gunfire from machine guns.
He said Palestinian ambulances were unable to reach the targetedneighborhood because the Israeli army was besieging the area and preventing people and medics from rescuing the wounded.
