China is ready to further develop its friendship and cooperation with Mauritania, said Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan Tuesday in Beijing during his talks with Mohamed Ould Tolba, minister of foreign affairs and cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
Noting that China and Mauritania enjoy a traditional friendship, Tang said that their friendly cooperation has been developing smoothly over the past 37 years.
China appreciates and thanks Mauritania's adherence to the "One China" principle and its support for China on issues like Taiwan and human rights, Tang said.
History has proven that the friendship between the two nations has withstood the test of the constantly-evolving international situation, Tang said.
Tang briefed the guest on the just-concluded 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Tolba extended his congratulations on the meeting's success.
Tolba said Mauritania regarded China as its closest friend, and that their profound cooperation has set a fine example for the world.
Mauritania is grateful to China for its prolonged, selfless assistance and help, he said.
Meanwhile, Tolba expressed his admiration for China's tremendous economic achievements over the past 13 years and extended his sincere wishes for China's future prosperity.
The two sides also conferred on bilateral relations and on other regional and international issues of common concern.
Tolba, who arrived in China on Monday, is visiting the country at Tang's invitation.
