Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma Saturday sacked the government of Prime Minister Anatoly Kinakh for what he said failure to properly handle social problems and the lack of parliament support.
Kuchma nominated Viktor Yanukovych, regional governor in the eastern province of Donetsk, as new prime minister.
Kuchma's order to sack the government is subject to parliament approval.
In his order, Kuchma promised that he will conduct constructive cooperation with parliament in forming an efficient and responsible new government.
Counting on the achievement of Kinakh's 18-month-old government, Kuchma said it has successfully managed to keep the momentum of growth of the economy.
