Chinese Premier Meets Cambodian King
China will strongly support and assist Cambodia's hosting of next month's leaders meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (SEAN) and the Greater Mekong Sub-region, Premier Zhu Rongji said in Beijing Tuesday.

Zhu said that hosting the leaders meeting between the ASEAN and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the leaders meeting of the Greater Mekong Sub-region will help Cambodia raise its international standing and its influence in the region.

He made these remarks during a meeting with the King of the Kingdom of Cambodia Norodom Sihanouk and Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk who are about to leave China for home.

Noting that Sino-Cambodian relations have maintained a good momentum in recent years, Zhu said China is ready to join with Cambodia in pushing forward the extensive and all-round development of good-neighborly, friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Sihanouk said the government and people of Cambodia are looking forward to Premier Zhu's official goodwill visit to the country. He expressed his belief that the visit will further promote the in-depth expansion of traditionally friendly bilateral relations.

The meeting was followed by a dinner given by Premier Zhu and his wife Lao An in honor of the Cambodian royal couple.
