Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji and former New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley agreed in Beijing on Thursday to promote friendly cooperation between China and New Zealand.
Zhu said developing the China-New Zealand friendship was in the interests of both nations, noting that the bilateral ties had grown smoothly since they established diplomatic relations in 1972.
In recent years, the consensus on establishing all-around cooperative relations reached by leaders of both countries had been put into practice, the two countries had exchanged more high-level visits and bilateral dialogue had been enhanced, he said.
Shipley said New Zealand valued its ties with China, adding that New Zealand and China shared comprehensive interests and New Zealand was willing to develop cooperation in economics, trade, science and technology, and training.
Shipley said she would continue to promote friendship and cooperation.
Shipley is here at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.
