Israeli soldiers, saying they had been warned of an attack, shot and killed four Palestinians near a Jewish settlement's vineyard in the West Bank on Sunday. The shootings brought the weekend Palestinian death toll to 13, including two children and several other civilians.
Senior Israeli officials apologized for the loss of civilian lives, while Palestinians and some Israelis charged the army has lost its sense of restraint in its drive to crush the Palestinian uprising.
Early on Sunday,Israeli troops opened fire directly at four Palestinian workers and killed them near the West Bank town of Hebron.
The four, who were just on their way back home after work, were walking by a Jewish settlement near the village of Bani Na'im east of Hebron, when Israeli troops opened intensive fire at them.
Also on Sunday, Israeli soldiers broke into the Jenin Refugee camp in the West Bank and shot dead a Palestinian teenager.
Five Palestinians, including two children, were killed on Saturday in an Israeli army airstrike by Apache helicopters' missiles at the village of Tubas, some 20 kilometers southeast of Jenin in the West Bank.
