Colombian Rebels Kidnap 18 Vacationers
Colombia's rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) kidnapped 18 vacationers in the north, the military authorities said Tuesday.

The vacationers were abducted Monday in the tourist center of La Fortuna in the state of Antioquia. Most of them are youths.

The rebels also killed a soldier who tried to free the hostages.

According to Pais Libre, an independent organization, Colombia has the highest rate of kidnapping in the world, with 3,000 cases each year. Of the kidnappings, 80 percent are authored by the FARC,the largest guerrilla group in the country.
