Jorma Ollila, chairman of the Nokia Company, was awarded the title of "honorary Beijing citizen" Wednesday by Beijing Mayor Liu Qi.
The industrial zone program funded by Nokia in Beijing has become prominent among local projects attracting foreign investment, Liu said, expressing Beijing's willingness to create a better environment for further cooperation with Nokia.
Ollila said Nokia has for the second time chosen Beijing as the venue for its global conference, currently being held for Nokia's executive chairpersons. This shows the importance of the Chinese market, he said.
Nokia is discussing its future business plans in China including more investment in this area, he said.
The title of "honorary Beijing citizen" is normally given to a person who has made outstanding contribution to the city's development. So far, 19 people have been awarded the honor.
