German Foreign Ministry confirmed Saturday that a German woman was abducted in the Afghan capital of Kabul.
The 31-year-old woman, who works for a German aid organization, was abducted by gunmen in a barbecue restaurant where she was having lunch with her husband.
A spokeswoman for German Foreign Ministry said a crisis team was set up to assess the issue but so far the purpose of the abduction remained unknown.
The crisis team was working closely with Afghan officials for a possible solution, said the spokeswoman.
Last month, two German engineers were taken hostage in central Afghanistan. One of them was shot to death and the other still remains in captivity.
