The Alagappa University at Karaikudi in south India's Tamil Nadu, will teach English and yoga to Chinese students, Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) reported in New Delhi Wednesday.

It is reported that the Alagappa University, located 550 kilometers south of Chennai, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Harbin Engineering University, Helongjiang Province; Jiujiang University, Jiangxi Province; and Yunyang Teachers College, Hubei Province.

The important areas chosen for cooperation between these universities are yoga, communicative English and computer science.

The Alagappa University plans to offer a one-year advanced short-term language proficiency course in communicative English to Chinese diploma holders, the report said.

"The university's senior faculty members will spend a couple of months at Chinese universities, teaching Yoga to students there," IANS quoted Alagappa University Vice Chancellor P. Kanniappan as saying.

In February, a Chinese team will be in Karakudi to assess the infrastructure facilities at the university for the student to exchange programs.
