Tokyo University held a reception here Wednesday to celebrate the founding of its Beijing representative office, which is the first representative office registered by a foreign university in China.
Consisting of eight staff, the office is Tokyo university's first overseas office. Vice President of Tokyo University Yutaka Kirino takes the position of the office chief.
Jin Fei, a professor at the university, said it has maintained close contact with other Asian countries.
"The establishment of its Beijing office will promote the academic exchanges between Tokyo university and Chinese universities and research institutes, expand the exchange programs between the two countries' university students," he said.
More than 30 Chinese universities and institutes have signed exchange agreements with Tokyo University or its branches.
