World renowned soaring soprano Sarah Brightman, together with other six Chinese and foreign artists will perform at the Beijing New Year Concert, sources witha local company in Beijing said Wednesday.
Sarah Brightman gave a personal concert in Beijing last May and sparked feverish enthusiasm among Chinese audiences with the levitating quality of her sparkling, childlike voice. The organizer revealed that this superstar will perform masterpieces of the two greatest musical opera makers, Leonard Bernstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Other foreign musicians will include Austrian conductor Ralf Weikert, who excels in interpreting classical opera, Swiss pianist Andreas Haefliger, most popular among the world's top symphony orchestra, and Italian tenor Macro Berti.
Chinese conductor Tan Lihua, violinist Xuewei and vocalist Zhang Ye will also perform at the concert.
The concert will also include a repertoire by maestroes like Strauss, Maurice Ravel, and Tchaikovsky.
The Beijing New Year Concert was initiated in 1996 and has become a popular cultural activity in Beijing.
