Australian Governor-General Michael Jeffery arrived at Shanghai on Wednesday evening, starting his ten-day state visit to China as guest of President Hu Jintao.

It is Jeffery's first China trip since he took office as governor-general in August, 2003.

During his stay, he will visit the Fudan University, Shanghai Museum and Oriental Pearl TV Tower.

He will leave here for Xi'an, capital of northwestern China's Shaanxi Province, on Friday.
