Israeli security sources said on Monday that the Israeli army imposed full closure on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip Sunday evening on the eve of the Jewish New Year or Rosh Hashanah.
The move was to prevent any possible attack by Palestinian militants against Israel during the holiday.
Israel Radio said the Israeli army has placed the West Bank under full closure on Monday to prepare for the holiday. Israeli police are heavily deployed throughout the West Bank, in and around Israeli cities, while checkpoints and roadblocks have been established throughout Jerusalem and surrounding areas.
The full closure will end Wednesday night, the end of the holiday.
Meanwhile, Israeli security officials called on citizens not to head to Sinai and Israeli holidaymakers to leave it immediately. (Xinhua News Agency October 4, 2005)
