State Councilor Meets AU Commission Chairperson

China, as a developing country, is a sincere friend of Africa forever and will firmly safeguard the common interests of developing countries, said State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan in Beijing Monday.

Tang said in a meeting with Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU) Alpha Oumar Konare that both China and Africa are faced with an important development opportunity and shoulder a common responsibility and mission.

"The new situation and challenges will make China and Africa more closely united with each other," said Tang.

China is confident about the prospect of the African nations to unite, safeguard peace and seek development, believing that the African people have the capability and wisdom to make more contributions to world peace, stability and prosperity.

Konare said the AU attaches importance to the partnership with China, and both sides should further enhance strategic cooperation.

The AU is ready to work with China to benefit under the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, said Konare.
