Putin Signs Law on China Border Agreement

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law on the ratification of an additional agreement on the eastern part of the Russian-Chinese border, the Itar-Tass News Agency quoted the Kremlin as announcing on Wednesday.

The law was approved by the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, on May 20 and passed by the Federation Council, the upper house, five days later.

The agreement defines the two countries' borderline on two sections, which constitute less than 2 percent of the Russian-Chinese border.

The dispute between the two countries over the borderline has been left unsettled since 1991 when the two sides signed a border treaty on the eastern part of the common border.

Russia and China share a 4,300 km-long border that was defined by the two sides when Putin visited China last October.
