A group of Chinese lawmakers departed Wednesday evening for the United States to meet their US counterparts.
The delegation of the National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature, will attend the second formal meeting of the exchange mechanism between the NPC and the US Senate.
The delegation, headed by Sheng Huaren, vice chairman and secretary-general of the NPC Standing Committee, is making the visit at the invitation of Ted Stevens, president pro tempore of the US Senate and chairman of the US Senate-China NPC Parliamentary Group and Senator Daniel K. Inouye, co-chairman of the US Senate-China NPC Parliamentary Group.
Sheng also serves as chairman of the China-US (Senate) Interparliamentary Exchange Group.
In addition, Jiang Enzhu, chairman of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee and chairman of the China-US (Congress) Interparliamentary Exchange Group, will hold the sixth round of regular meeting with the US Congressman Donald A. Manzullo, chairman of the US (Congress)-China Interparliamentary Exchange Group.
