The Sudanese government has expressed it's strong disagreement with UN Security Council resolution 1591 and described it as inappropriate.
In reaction to the US-drafted resolution, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the UN resolution would have a negative impact on the implementation of the peace deal signed between the Sudanese government and southern rebels in January.
The statement also said the Sudanese government would work along with the regional and international community to lift any imposition of sanctions which was based on incorrect reports and injustice against Sudan.
The UN Security Council voted on Tuesday to apply a travel ban and asset freeze on those who committed war crimes in Sudan's western region of Darfur. Resolution 1591 is also aimed at strengthening an arms embargo on Sudan.
