Vice FM Meets Nauru President

Vice Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with visiting Nauru President Ludwig Scotty in Guangzhou Sunday, with their discussion focusing on bilateral ties, economic and technological cooperation, sources from the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

After conveying to Scotty regards of President Hu Jintao, Yang reviewed the development of China-Nauru diplomatic relations.

Yang lauded efforts Scotty has made to promote the friendship between the two countries and expressed the appreciation for the adherence of the Nauru government to one-China policy.

"The Chinese government values China-Nauru friendship and backs Nauru's drive to improve the people's livelihood and achieve the sound development of economy," said Yang.

China would like to join hands with Nauru to advance bilateral relations, Yang said.

Noting that he was deeply impressed by the development of Guangdong and China as a whole, Scotty said Nauru's new administration is making active efforts for the economic and social development.

Nauru places great importance on expanding economic and trade cooperation with China, Scotty said.

Scotty said Nauru has always observed the one-China policy, understands and supports China's Anti-Secession Law and believes the Chinese people will surely achieve the cause of national unification.
