Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary-General Zhang Deguang says the group has seen great success in the fields of maintaining regional peace, anti-terrorism, anti-drugs, as well as economic and trade cooperation over the past year.
Zhang Deguang made the comments on the first anniversary of the foundation of the Shanghai SCO Secretariat.
He noted that the SCO is also expanding external exchanges with the United Nations, European Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and other international or regional organizations. The group has also attracted Mongolia as an observer.
But Zhang Deguang added that accepting other new member nations or observers is not on the agenda of the SCO.
Founded in 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental international organization. It currently has six member nations, including China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
