Pakistan Supports Reunification of Taiwan with China

Pakistan Thursday reiterated its one-China policy, stressing that it supports the reunification of Taiwan with the Mainland of China.

When asked at a weekly news briefing by Xinhua for comments on China's considering a proposed anti-secession law to prevent Taiwan from becoming independent, Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan said that Islamabad "appreciates the efforts being made by China for peaceful reunification of Taiwan with the Mainland."

He added that China plays an important role in maintaining peace and security across the Taiwan Straits and in the Asia-Pacific region.

The spokesman reaffirmed Pakistan's policy toward Taiwan, saying Islamabad takes a one-China policy and that Taiwan is a part of China.

At the weekend, China's National People's Congress, the national legislature, will consider an anti-secession law.
