Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan was elected the new president of the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
He is the eldest son of the late Sheikh Zayed, who died on Tuesday after a long illness.
Fifty-six-year-old Sheikh Khalifa was elected by the UAE's Federal Council that consists of the rulers of the seven emirates.
Sheikh Khalifa was the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and succeeded as Abu Dhabi's ruler after his father's death.
