Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan said Wednesday that military relations between China and the United Kingdom have maintained good momentum and should be further enhanced.
During his meeting with visiting British Defense Secretary Geoff Hoon, Cao, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and State Councilor, said that the Chinese military has always attached great importance to its friendly relations with the British military.
He said that the Sino-British ties have entered a new period after the two countries issued a joint statement in May and vowed to develop a "comprehensive strategic partnership."
During the meeting, Hoon reiterated British Government's stance of sticking to the one-China Policy.
Hoon also recognized China's efforts in helping prevent nuclear proliferation on the Korean Peninsula and its mediation for the new round of six-party talks.
Hoon said that both countries should work together and redouble their efforts to maintain regional and global security.
The two also exchanged views on social economic and development, military modernization and international affairs of common concern.
Hoon arrived in Beijing Wednesday for an official visit at the invitation of Cao Gangchuan.
