A citywide inspection and test shows that there are no sub-standard liquid dairy products on sale in the Chinese capital, the Beijing quality and technology supervision bureau announced Friday.

A total of 34 yogurt and other liquid milk products were selected and tested, and all tested samples were qualified, according to the bureau. It took 26 samples directly from local based diary producers and eight on sale from local department stores and supermarkets.

According to China's state standards, the protein content of yogurt or other similar diary products should be no less than 2.3 percent of total ingredients, and those milk beverages containing ingredients like water and sugar should keep the content at 0.7 percent or above.

The inspection came amid a fake milk powder scandal in east China's Anhui Province, in which 13 infants in the province died and 171 infants suffered from malnutrition after being fed with milk powder deficient in protein and other nutrients.

More similar fake milk powder cases have been exposed in other provinces and cities and the central government has stepped in to track down the scandal and vow to punish those found guilty. Meanwhile the scandal has prompted a wave of inspection and scrutiny into diary products nationwide to uncover sub-standard milk products.
